1 3/4" Thick Block by Kim Cashon-Smith |
The Glass Block: Imbedded ImageryRather different, rather thick and in the kiln a rather long time - two days! This is a workshop about planning, time and patience. We will create a sculptural glass piece approximately 7" x 7" x 1 1/2" - that's 12 layers thick! It will be crystal clear with an imbedded imagery of your design. The first part of the day will be spent discussing the ramifications of working so thick, prepping our mold materials, designing and drawing our image, and choosing the appropriate materials to achieve our goal. Cutting glass and assembling your project imagery from sheet glass, stringer, frit and powders will take up the second part of the day. Once you learn the techniques larger blocks (and different shapes) can be created that could work well as tops for end tables, dividing walls or countertop, as well as free standing sculpture. |
